Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas

When people refer to "The Beach" in Cabo San Lucas, this is where they are talking about.

In our travels though Baja, we stopped by the Médano Beach on a typical Sunday off-season afternoon in Cabo San Lucas. The beach is the strip of well groomed, clean sand stretching from the harbor entrance north east towards the resorts. Médano Beach is to Cabo what Waikiki is to Honolulu. A place to see, be seen and to meet.

It was easy to find an umbrella covered table at the beach level or one in the covered bar area at 1PM. By 3PM you had to look sharp and move quick to Médano Beach on a typical Sunday off-season afternoonfind a table when someone else left. The crowd was mostly young adults, tourists from America, Europe and Mexico. There were a few families and children as small as toddlers and the mix was about half, gringos and locals.

The staff was friendly and the busier it got the more efficient they became. Mr Big Johnson in the fleshIt's 2 for 1 all day Sunday and two Dos Equis from a bucket of ice went down quickly. Mr. Big Johnson (seen left) is entertainment all to himself. Dispensing shots of Tequila in a number of entertaining manors, he wanders the crowd and provides continual levity. Quite willing to have his picture taken, alone or with you, ladies who lift their tops can become permanent members of his "Wedding Album"  collection. Another tip, don't lift his apron.

The afternoon we were there the contestants remained pretty tame and all the cloths stayed on. In fact, one lovely young lady from France refused to give up the sun dress. Guests to the Mango Deck should be aware that some times these contests become a little more heated. The dance contest was then followed by a game of "Musical Chairs" for the wee ones. Prizes were cervesa and milk shakes for the appropriate winners.Rent a pango to go around the point to Lover's Beach

Beach chairs are available for customers only right down to the water line and and a huge number of plastic tables are serviced by a fleet of Condosavers Bannerwaiters. A small number of more formal tables are available on the bar deck. We did not sample the food but it appeared to be standard beach bar fare, ample portions and well presented. Bathrooms are well appointed and clean Open: 8 am to 11 pm - Located on Médano Beach, Cabo San Lucas. Phone: (624) 143-0901 / 143-6777

Activities at the Mango Deck

"Eric" wasn't listening to all the responsibilities of his position as victim for the "Dirty Dance Contest". He was forced to begin the event with his own 'Sexy Dance". Seven contestants then gave him a great vacation memory. The crowds choice, contest ended in a dance-off between a lady from Washington and Mexico City. The Home town gal (blue bikini right) took the prize as her dad offered his encouragement from the upper deck.
