Tiger Shark (Galeocerdo cuvier)
A
tiger shark weighing as much as 1600 pounds was caught on East Cape just
before hurricane Marty according to reports in the Los Angeles Times 9/30.
According
to the report the shark was caught by local fishermen when they returned to
tend their buoyed lines. The shark was so large it had to be gutted to be
hauled into the panga. Large
sharks are rarely caught anymore in the Sea of Cortez, because of years of
fishing pressure.
It
was also reported that inside the shark they found a goat and two whole
turtles. The goat was most likely the victim of an eariler demise in
hurricane flooding.
