Personal Home Management - Mike and Sandy Pearce - Owners: La Luz del Sol

Taking the worry out of caring for your vacation home in Cabo San Lucas

Following is a profile of La Luz del Sol a relative new business for a relatively new market by some long time visitors to the Cape region of Baja California Sur. Personal Home Management taking the hassle out of absentee ownership. Not as much a Property management company dealing with rentals but a company dedicated to keeping your house the way you want it for when you want it.

Having come to Cabo San Lucas, Baja California, regularly for over 20 years, while living in Denver Colorado, Mike and Sandy Pearce have seen the many changes in the Los Cabos area over the years. From the “sleepy little fishing village” everyone speaks of in the past, to thousands of expensive homes from the Pedregal in Cabo, through the corridor to San Jose del Cabo and now out past Playita. With the new higher end “fraccionamientos” (housing developments), golf courses, timeshares and condos Mike feels the Los Cabos has really just begun to grow.

The Pearce’s finally decided to make the full time commitment over a year ago, moved to Cabo and created a new service business, La Luz del Sol, Personal Home Managers, for those people who are not so fortunate as to live here year around but have a personal home that they would like maintained and looked after. The idea being, you come down here to enjoy yourself and not deal with the problems of owning your home. Mike wants your home to be just the way you want it, when you return, on any day you choose.

"We like to fix things while you are not there so it all works when you are." says Mike.

Mike demonstrated; one of his clients had chosen to discontinue regularly scheduled house care. Upon the owners return, the onetime cleanup costs were much greater than all of the monthly maintenance fees that would have been paid. "Baja is a tough environment, "says Mike. "The sun, salt air and dust can wreck havoc on a home left untended several weeks or months at a time." Also by having scheduled maintenance, security is better, with the regular presence of someone regularly checking for outside lighting, any disturbances, broken pipes, downed trees or running water for example.

Mike was a photo lab business owner in Denver for over 25 years which he sold about 4 years ago to prepare for semi-retirement. While he is not busy caring for your home, he will be found enjoying the good life of golfing, sport fishing, siestas and photography.

Mike explains that La Luz del Sol is primarily concerned with the physical well being of your personal home, that is why they call themselves “Personal Home Managers”. For absentee owners it is an excellent way to maintain and secure your home year round.

Mike has found a good core of maintenance specialist; whether it is for one of your home appliances or your pool system they can handle it all. they offer regular services like Housekeeping, Pool Care, Fumigation and Gardening as well as provide more specialized services like provisioning of food and alcohol, payment of bills, fideocamiso fees, taxes and storm preparation.

When asked, one of the biggest challenges to Mike in doing business in Mexico is the seemingly lack of responsibility, shown by the incredible tardiness of everyone. Well that is always a big adjustment for us northerners and you might want to take a look at my publishers statement “Poco a poco y ni modo” before jumping right into a business south of the border. Is it not for everybody, but those that make the “blend” as I like to say will find a rich life of relaxing work and exciting leisure in Baja California

Sandy was a CFO for a family owned oil business and brings her skills to the accounting and administration of the company.

So, if you have a substantial investment down here in the Los Cabos area and would like your home looked after as if it were you; by a fully qualified staff for much less that you may think, please contact La Luz del Sol Private Home Mangers.
